Questions

The short answers

The things people ask before they start a competition.

Is TippingMates free?

Yes. Everything in the app is free today, for everyone in your group, and there is nothing to pay for inside it. Our Terms leave room for optional paid extras in future; if we ever add any, you’ll see the price in the app before anything costs money, and the tipping, the ladder and your group won’t be behind it.

Why do I have to be 18 to have an account?

Because it’s simpler and safer for everyone, including the workplaces and clubs that run competitions on TippingMates. Our Terms ask for 18 or over to hold an account. The age rating you see in the App Store or on Google Play is a different thing: it describes the content of the app, as each store’s own questionnaire rates it, not who may sign up.

Are there ads in the app?

No. There are no ads in the app, and no betting or bookmaker promotions anywhere, in the app or on this website. We do run some advertising of our own on Facebook to tell people TippingMates exists, and this website uses a Meta Pixel to measure whether those ads led anyone here. That is described in our Privacy Policy, where you can also see how to limit it.

Is there any money involved?

Not through us. TippingMates has no odds, no betting and no prizes of monetary value: it’s a scoreboard for your group. If your group wants to arrange something between themselves, that’s a private matter between the members, and it’s on them to keep it legal where they live.

Can I sign up or tip on the website?

Not yet. The website is where you can see what’s on and try a round without an account; the competitions themselves run in the app, on iOS and Android. Starting one takes about a minute after you install it.

Which sports can I tip on?

Whatever is on the Tournaments page right now, which changes with the calendar. This summer that’s cricket (the Nepal Premier League and the WBBL), the A-League, the NBL, the NFL, the Premier League, La Liga and AFLW. AFL and NRL come back when their seasons do.

Can I start a competition after the season has begun?

Yes. Start from the next round and everyone begins level, or import the rounds already played if your group has been keeping score elsewhere.
